Elon Musk says he will move X and SpaceX headquarters to Texas in response to California gender law

Elon can do what he wants. Those that don't like him because they're told not to like him will shun him and treat him like trash regardless of what he does.

I wouldn't care if he moved his companies to Australia. Hopefully he finds what he needs with this change and it turns out to be a good business decision, but only time will tell.

I don't like Musk. Not because someone told me to not like him. Myself, and others, are independent thinkers capable of independent thought - even though it seems you don't believe there are such people.

That you think people control our thoughts makes me wonder if there are any authoritarian figures in your cache of most revered people.

I don't care where he goes either. Musk has had some spectacularly bad business decisions. There's room for more in his life, and I don't doubt he will make more as he stumbles through his life.

Yep, that's definitely why people don't like him. It has nothing to do with him having the emotional maturity of a pissed off 12 year old boy.

How people can respect Musk after he accused a cave diver of being a pedo, simply because he turned down Musk's moronic idea, is beyond me.

I'm glad there is an Elon Musk story today. This is an opportunity for the supporters of anti parents rights to express themselves. Children need protection but this is not that. Musk has done the right thing. It may cost him money but being truthful no matter the consequences is always preferable to lies. I'm proud of Elon today like every day.

Why people think it's a good idea to undermine the family. And think teachers know better than parents is beyond stupid. Why don't we allow 12 year olds to drink alcohol at school and not let the parents know while we are at it.

Why does he care?

It's not like Elon Musk is going to send any of his spawn to a public school. He lives in bubble.

And more importantly, why do I even care enough to type this?

"The state will take away your kids in California," Musk added in a follow-up X post. - Just more posturing. The law has nothing to do with taking kids away. Its such an extreme take and out of reality.

Musk and Texas deserve each other, enjoy.

No one is undermining the family... the law is to protect children from parents who would beat them (or worse) if they come out as gay, transgender, etc...

Why would we think that parents, who don't need any requirements to have children, would know better than an educator (who needs a degree) as to what children need?

It's backwards thinking like this that causes so many problems in our world...

Elon once again being based and getting under the skin of weirdos as a result. Nothing is more underwhelming than not being larger than life when you are successful, and Elon understands this. That’s why he’s polarizing.

This is why states are a better system.

Don’t like policies? Move.

It makes state governments compete with each other.

yes but that doesnt allow folks to patronize you and talk down to you. Simply, it doesnt fit their agenda so it cant possibly be true.

You have to remember, most folks saying things as you describe are not capable of thinking for themselves and therefore this concept is completely out of their reasoning. Elon didnt tell them to think for themselves so how could they possibly do it?

Often times these kids are opening up at school because their parents don't support them, or are even hostile towards LGBTQ concepts.

There is an infinite list of things students say and do at school that don't get communicated to parents, but red pockets of California created laws saying that children identifying as transgender and gay need to be reported to their parents. The chilling effect of that law is obvious. It is designed to keep children who fear their parents in line.

Should children forced to be vegan at home be reported to their parents if they eat meat at school lunch?

Maybe because there are some decisions that should not be kept from parents? Or allowed to children as opposed to waiting until they become adults? The ramifications of this are too enormous to exclude parents from (parents who by the way will have to bear the incredible costs should something go wrong, which the likelihood of is very high). It is truly a fanatic fantasy: parents stuck with all the responsibility and blame but have no say whatsoever, while the state gets ZERO BLAME even though it fostered the environment for these motions to begin.

This is a lie to be told and nothing more. The family has been undermined for quite sometime in many locations. If you want to see that children are not abused adopt a troubled child from the system and go see the movie "Sound of Hope".

How does that help the children in legal custody of ignorant, abusive parents?

The “family”, as you define it, might be evolving - but that doesn’t mean the “old” version is any less legitimate.

Just because a family is allowed to have two moms, two dads, or whatever… doesn’t mean that your “normal” 2-heterosexual parent family is any less of a family.

Maybe learn how to tolerate others - and appreciate that all of humanity has the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Not just straight white people…

If I wanted to get a job as a clown as a child my parents would had a say if I should pursue being a clown. If I wanted to chop my balls of a child the parents should have a say in that. Many children grow out of weird fantasies. Children should not act on these feelings at that age.

That's the point of parenting if you are not 18 you don't get to make adult decisions.

There are a few bad apples out there for parents.. that's not a good reason to take all rights away from all parents. There is peer pressure from other kids at schools.. as a parent this pressure is something they should know about and have a say in.

what percentage is this? not likely high and if its actually the case you deal with those parents. you dont take away all parenting rights

Alas, the percentage can be high - depending on the area… I used to teach in a predominately “homophobic” area of my city - and the school I taught at we knew that any child who came out as “different” would face a very violent family.

And what power does a teacher have to “deal with the parents”? Not to mention that it would be dealing with them AFTER the child is beaten.

A teacher’s job is to deal with the children - politicians deal with the parents… hence a law like this.

Opinions on violence can be debated. some think parents spanking their children for doing wrong is violent.

There’s a difference between spanking and beating… and I’ve made many children’s aid calls in my career - I’ve seen bruises and worse on children that aren’t caused by spanking…

And while it isn’t my job to investigate (that’s why we have police), there have been plenty of cases of parents serving time for beating their kids - NOT spanking.
