A fire safety audit committee will be formed after a devastating fire in the Tangra region

Kolkata: A day after a devastating fire engulfed the Tangra region, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had instructed to set up a fire safety audit committee to survey various areas that could catch fire very quickly.

The mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Sunday, after visiting the site, said a committee consisting of police, fire department and society would soon be formed to inspect the compact areas of the city.

“People are saying that due to massive flammables, the fire took place, but after the cooling process, a forensic team will come to the spot to further inspect the place,” Hakim said.

It can be recalled that on Saturday evening a devastating fire occurred in a godown in Tangra area and after continuous efforts by firefighters for more than 16 hours, the fire was brought under control on Sunday morning.

Three firefighters were also injured on Saturday evening as they put out the blaze. Buildings adjacent to the godown were also partially affected by the fire.

On Sunday morning, in the presence of the mayor of KMC, the boundary wall of the godown was broken down and the cooling process began.

BJP state chairwoman Sukanta Majumdar criticized the chief minister, saying that after being in power for 11 years, she understood that a fire safety audit committee should be established.

“If the chief minister takes 11 years to form the committee, it will be implemented after several years,” Majumdar said.

It may be recalled that local residents were seen filling the fire truck with water using buckets as the 15 rushed fire trucks ran out of water.

Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari taking to Twitter said: “Egiye Bangla in dire disaster management. Shame shame @MamataOfficial. The effectiveness of the fire and emergency service declined during your tenure. »

Meanwhile, a complaint was filed at Tangra Police Station against the owner of the godown as there were no fire safety plans in the godown.
