Samples likely to be sent to the forensic laboratory in Punjab
KARACHI: Police officers investigating the blast in the SITE area, Karachi, are likely to send samples collected from the blast site to the Punjab forensic laboratory to determine the actual cause of the blast .
Police investigators have opened investigations to determine the real cause of the explosion. According to investigations by SSP Abdullah Memon, the structure of the building collapsed following the explosion. Investigations are also underway to determine how the building was constructed on a nullah. Demolition work on the building was halted on Monday after police investigators asked authorities to detain it until evidence is gathered. Experts from the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Crime Scene Unit collect samples of the collapsed building and the nullah. Later, the building will be demolished while the samples will likely be sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.
Five bank employees and two customers were among the dead. As many as 17 people were killed and 11 others were injured in a powerful explosion that apparently occurred due to gas build-up in the drain. A case against the owners of the building and those who built it on top of nullah has already been registered, while no arrests have been made so far.
