KATHMANDU: A special parliamentary commission formed to investigate the alleged involvement of unauthorized persons in the budget-making process has begun its investigation based on a forensic report submitted by the Nepalese police.
Former finance minister Janardan Sharma was accused of inviting unauthorized persons to his office on the eleventh hour of the budget-making process to change tax rates and he resigned from his post with the formation of the committee to investigate the case.
He faces charges of entertaining strangers at his office at midnight on May 28 to change tax rates.
Earlier, the Committee sought the assistance of the Nepal Police Forensic Department to restore CCTV footage from that period which was allegedly removed from the Ministry of Finance.
According to Committee Secretary Surendra Aryal, the Committee meeting held this morning started the investigation based on the forensic report. As he said, the committee summoned the relevant expert to facilitate his understanding of the technical issues of the case.
The Committee will meet again at 4:00 p.m. today.
